Why did you get into Kiting?

I used to fly trainer kites with my dad as a child. I was aware that the sport was starting in Hawaii and wanted to get into it. One day when I saw a flicker of a kite at Lyall Bay, I knew instantly what it was. I was the first of 4 kiters in Wellington in 2001 and have been passionate about our kiting location ever since!

Why did you start White Cloud?

When I return to Aotearoa after many years kiting overseas, I saw there was an opportunity to pass on what I had learned. One aspect was the knowledge, but another was my contacts with some of the best brands. White Cloud is the only dedicated kite shop in the capital and we are near the premium spot Lyall Bay.

Why did you get into Winging?

Winging is more accessible hence why it is the fastest growing windsport. I like that you can go out in different wind directions and in a bigger wind range. My focus is on waveriding and the ability to ‘let go’ of the wing to really ride the wave really appeals. It’s also a great gateway into other types of foiling ie prone, wake, SUPing, kiting and windfoiling.
